KJES YOUTH ANIMATION PROGRAMME INSPIRES SOUTH ZONE JESUIT REGENTS

The KJES Youth Ministry organised a one-day Youth Animation
Programme at Ashirvad, Bengaluru, bringing together 35 Jesuit scholastics
preparing for their regency across the South Zone provinces. The event aimed to
deepen their understanding of the realities faced by young people today and to
strengthen their mission of walking alongside youth with empathy, patience, and
courage.
Fr Joel Fernandes SJ, Director of KJES Youth Works, opened
the programme with an inspiring session where he shared his personal journey in
youth animation ministry. He emphasised the importance of accompanying young
people with openness and understanding, and his reflections were found to be
both timely and practical by the participants.

The day’s first session was led by Viola Lewis, a dedicated
youth animator, who gave a heartfelt reflection on the mindset of young
Catholics today. She spoke openly about their hopes, struggles, and
relationship with the Church and the Society of Jesus. Her honest and personal
sharing left a strong impact on the audience, who appreciated her
straightforward approach.
Ms Maryanne, a counsellor, led a session on youth
psychology. She provided valuable insights into how young people process
emotions, handle stress, and relate to their surroundings. Her accessible and
professional approach helped the regents better understand the psychological
aspects of youth ministry.

In the afternoon, a panel discussion moderated by Fr Joel
featured four young panellists Lerin, Shaun, Jassica, and Magdaline. They
shared their experiences through the lens of Jesuit values such as Magis
(striving for more), Cura Personalis (care for the whole person), and being men
and women for and with others. The panellists spoke courageously about
challenges related to identity, faith, and belonging, which resonated deeply
with the scholastics.
The programme also included an interactive session featuring
action songs and ice-breaking techniques, bringing energy, joy, and spontaneity
to the day. Participants enjoyed the lively atmosphere, which helped build
connections and a sense of community.
Feedback from the event highlighted the richness of the
experience. The regents left feeling confident, motivated, and better prepared
to serve youth in their future ministries. The programme reaffirmed the Jesuit
commitment to listening to, learning from, and accompanying young people
walking with them with empathy, hope, and courage.
