PAPER BAG DRIVE

AICUF KARNATAKA OBSERVES WORLD PAPER BAG DAY WITH STATEWIDE DRIVE

On the occasion of World Paper Bag Day on 12th July 2025, AICUF Karnataka organized a meaningful and eco-conscious Paper Bag Drive across its various units. The week leading up to the day witnessed active participation by AICUFers from different institutions, who generously donated old newspapers for the initiative.

The main event in Bengaluru was held at the KJES Youth Centre, where AICUFers from various Bengaluru units gathered for the drive. The session began with a warm welcome by Ms Jassica Sharal Santhmayor, followed by an inspiring address by Mr Shaik Salman, who spoke on the importance of the initiative, relevance of sustainable alternatives and the role of youth in environmental responsibility. Participants then engaged in the hands-on activity of making paper bags. Post the bag making session, the AICUFers were divided into groups and sent to distribute the paper bags to street vendors and shopkeepers in surrounding areas, encouraging them to reduce the use of plastic.

Simultaneously in Mangaluru, AICUFers assembled at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), where a similar drive took place. After making paper bags, the students carried out the distribution around the university premises, sensitizing local vendors and the public about the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices.

Though small in scale, this act of solidarity and environmental action had a significant impact, spreading awareness and promoting the use of sustainable alternatives. The drive was a testament to how youth-led initiatives, when driven with purpose, can make a lasting difference.
