Multi-Faith Memorial & Tribute to Pope Francis

Held on 8th May 2025, at Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru

The Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru, hosted a Multi-Faith Memorial and Tribute to Pope Francis on 8 May 2025. The event, which began at 4:30 PM, brought together people from diverse religious backgrounds to honour a global spiritual leader who championed peace, compassion, and interfaith unity.

The gathering opened with a warm welcome from Fr Selvaraj SJ. This was followed by an address from Fr Denzil, who spoke about Pope Francis as a global voice of justice and love, highlighting his role in fostering dialogue and understanding across communities.

Representatives from Hindu, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Tibetan, Jain, Muslim, Sikh, Brahmakumari, and Bahá’í faiths shared personal reflections on the Pope’s inclusive spirit and influence. Their testimonies underlined his ability to unite people across caste, creed, and culture.

As the Youth Representative from Karnataka Jesuit Youth Animators, I shared how Pope Francis touched the lives of young people. In a time of uncertainty and division, he encouraged youth to be courageous, sincere, and rooted in faith. He reminded us that we are not just the future, but the present called to dream, act, and love with purpose.

Three key messages he left with us were:

  1. Do not be afraid to be different.

  2. Getting up and going through life is a mission.

  3. Stay rooted in faith, family, and love.

To honour his legacy, I read the poem We Need Saints, a call for modern-day saints who live joyfully, serve with compassion, and make a difference in everyday life. The poem deeply moved the audience, marking a moment of shared emotion and inspiration.

The tribute concluded with a strong affirmation: Pope Francis’s legacy lives on in every act of love, unity, and justice. His memory remains a guiding light for generations to come.
